Attorney Jaehyun Oh represented a prisoner who suffered life threatening neck trauma after being hit by another inmate while detained on Rikers Island. Despite making multiple pleas for medical attention, our client did not receive proper treatment right away.
Due to delayed treatment, our client suffered from worsening physical conditions. He was unable to eat, move his limbs, or use the bathroom, and was left in that condition for days. When he finally received medical attention, he required extensive surgery and was diagnosed with injuries directly attributable to the delay in treatment.
By defeating a motion to dismiss by Rikers personnel, Attorney Jaehyun Oh successfully alleged that our client’s injuries were a direct result of Rikers Island’s deliberate indifference to his health and safety.
