Kevin Lee, Esq., represented a 28-year-old woman who suffered from devastating injuries as a result of her surgeon’s negligence during a gallbladder removal surgery.

Our client presented to the defendant surgeon for a scheduled gallbladder removal surgery, which is supposed to be a minimally invasive procedure. Unfortunately, during the procedure, her surgeon committed an egregious error by severing our client’s hepatic duct, which is the tube that carries bile from the liver. Notably, the hepatic duct is not anywhere near the region where the surgery was being performed; the injury to our client’s hepatic duct was a negligent deviation from the accepted standard of care.

Kevin Lee demonstrated that the defendant surgeon lacked the necessary technical competency to perform the surgery correctly in the first place. Mr. Lee argued that the surgeon should have obtained a critical safety view and properly examined our client’s anatomy before performing the surgery, which would have largely reduced the likelihood of our client suffering from complications. Furthermore, Mr. Lee held that the surgeon should have recognized and immediately corrected the injury he caused to our client during the surgery.

However, as a result of the surgeon’s negligent performance and failure to promptly tend to our client’s injury, our client suffered from devastating complications, including sepsis, kidney injury, leakage, and infections. Our client also required additional surgeries to her liver and abdomen and has suffered from significant pain and suffering, permanent disfigurement, limitations to physical activity, and a shortened life expectancy.
