Yaz/Yasmin/Ocella

Representing Patients Suffering Side Effects From Yaz

Bayer Healthcare is the manufacturer of the birth control drug known as Yaz or Yasmin. Teva Pharmaceuticals markets the generic brand Ocella. Yaz/Yasmin/and Ocella has been approved by the FDA as a birth-control pill with a new synthetic hormone progestin drospirenone.

Although it was approved as a birth control pill, the companies were touting and marketing its off label use for other medical issues including acne, treating painful menstrual periods and controlling heavy menstrual bleeding without clinical trials to prove the efficacy of the drug. In fact, commercials for the drug had a slogan “beyond birth control” implying multiple benefits. The target demographic was 20-year-old women.

Women are suffering serious side effects from the drug including blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, gall bladder disease, pancreatitis, stroke and heart attacks.

Currently no recall has been instituted by either the FDA or the manufacturers.
