Prostate Cancer Misdiagnosed
Your Advocate When Prostate Cancer Is Misdiagnosed
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and can be successfully treated if diagnosed early. Prostate cancer is diagnosed in approximately 80% of men who reach the age of 80. In fact, if prostate cancer is diagnosed timely it is highly likely that the cancer is curable.
In one such case the failure to timely diagnose prostate cancer resulted in a $1 million dollar settlement obtained by Attorney Brad Zimmerman.
Questions in determining a misdiagnosis of prostate cancer include:
- Did the physician recommend a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test?
- Did the treating physician perform a complete digital rectal examination and appropriately evaluate the prostate?
- If the PSA results were higher than four, were additional tests performed such as a biopsy of the prostate and was a referral to a urologist obtained?
- Were the PSA results read accurately?
- Did the lab report the PSA results to the physician?
- Was a complete family history taken to reveal hereditary risk factors?
